Graphite is an important non-metallic material, which is widely used in lubricant, refractory, battery, casting, pencil, coating and other fields. In actual production, each industrial department has its own requirements for the purity of graphite, so it needs to adopt relative purification before use. Due to the large differences in the properties of raw graphite ore, there are also great differences in different graphite ore production processes, among which gravity separation, flotation and electric separation are widely used in graphite production.

Among many graphite ores, crystalline graphite is a kind of ore with high content of fixed carbon and low content of impurities, and its separation and purification process is relatively simple. Crystalline graphite ore can also be divided into dense crystalline graphite ore and flake graphite ore. There are great differences in the properties of the two kinds of ores, as well as in the beneficiation process of graphite ore. For dense crystalline graphite ore, the ore has high content of fixed carbon and low content of impurities, which can be directly exploited or the mixed waste rock can be removed by hand.

For flake graphite ore, the larger the scale, the greater the use, and the higher the natural price. However, the reserves of large scale graphite ore in nature are very small, so attention should be paid to the protection of large scale graphite when sorting this kind of ore. Generally, the stage grinding and stage separation process is used to separate and purify them, and the large flake graphite separated from the monomer is separated in time through the stage grinding and stage separation process. Due to the need to obtain high purity graphite products, there are many times of selection in the process. Graphite is a kind of ore with good floatability, which can be selected by adding No. 4 oil or without adding collector.

For aphanitic graphite ore, the fixed carbon content of this graphite is 60% - 80%, its particle size is very fine, the impurity content is high, and its utilization is more complex. In addition to crushing and grinding, gravity concentration may also be used for pre concentration before flotation. In addition, for graphite ore with complex ore properties, even flotation may not be able to make its purity meet the requirements of industrial use. After flotation, chemical beneficiation should be used to further separate and purify it.

Due to the difference of graphite particle size, content, impurity type and other properties, the graphite ores of each concentrator are different in actual production. The ore properties should be fully studied when designing the beneficiation process.
